Clothesline monitor
I'm developing an IoT device to act as a monitor for my clothesline, so it can identify when washing on the line is dry and ready to be brought back inside. The goal of this project is to get familiar with using remote Arduinos as independant IoT devices, and experiment with keeping them powered and reporting useful data while outside.
It is pretty straightforward to turn an Adruino into a weather station, but I wanted to give it the decision making ability to decide when my washing is dry and send me a notification. By putting the device inside a sock, I can monitor the temporature (and importantly, humidity) inside the sock to evaluate how well it is drying as a representative of the rest of the washing.
The entire project (components list, codebase and printable case) of the clothesline monitor are available on GitHub.
Components
- Arduino ESP2866 main board. I used a Wifi mini ESP8266 main board from Jaycar.
- DHT22 temporature and humidity sensor. I used an AM2302 mounted DHT22 module from Ali Express.
- A sock. There are always a few socks in my washing. I like Holeproof Explorers.

Hardware and IoT set.
