Projects

My major printing projects so far are Trout Bout, Touchy Bugs, and Gem Hero (replacement game pieces), plus some smaller projects on my Thingiverse page.

The Printer

I use the ALDI Cocoon Create Touch (aka Wanhao Duplicator i3 Plus), which is inexpensive and easy to modify. This printer supports serial communication over USB, but requires separate Cocoon Create drivers for macOS. Once these are installed on your machine, it's easy to slice and print directly from Cura or other printer interfaces (like Octopi).

Firmware Mods

The built-in firmware is functional, but I found that some bugs caused unpredicatble behaviour at times. I upgraded it to the i3PlusPlus firmware, which made the printer much easier to interact with.

Hardware Mods

The first must-have mod for this printer is a spool arm upgrade, making it easier to use filament spools from other manufacturers. Other good additions are Octopi, the and IKEA LEDBERG lighting. I have also pimped it out with some printable mods, which I have shared in my Cocoon Create Touch mods collection on Thingiverse.
